Silvio Silvestri,    Plein Air Artist

I was introduced to art at an early age by my family who imported wonderful italian paintings.  Although they were middle class, these paintings were in the classical renassaince style such as Titian or Rembrandt.  I learned to appreciate art through my mother,  uncles who were in the art production business (Silvestri Christmass Tree Ornaments are known worldwide) and my father who was an architect.  Attracted to pottery and sculpture, painting became my true passion during my late twenties as it was more expressive to my art spirit.

In college, I took beginning design and drawing but  later adopted painting after a trip into the sierras.  The majesty and grandeur of the mountains instilled a life lang desire to describe these beautiful giants in all their splendor. Impressionism , mostly French and Spanish, highly influenced my thinking and style.  Perhaps the two most influential artists are Sorrolla and Monet.  In addition, the California school from the 1930’s and 1940 also impacted me.  Artists such as Edgar Payne and Franz Bischoff have had a lasting impact with their strong loose colors and bold designs.

I have been professionally exhibiting my work since 1991 and painting since 1975.  I have also studied with master painter from around country such as TM Nicholas , Don Ward, Kenn Backhaus, and Ron Rencher.  A friend and mentor, Robert Sandidge, has also taught me many aspects of the artistic process. Email me at silvios@sbcglobal.net for pricing and availability.  I have won awards in statewide exhibitions for the last seven years and gladly accept commissions.
